An unbeatably flavourful summer
By David C, April 17 2025
The region of Portneuf is the breadbasket of the Capitale-Nationale region, with over 400 farms and dozens of passionate agrifood producers, processors and retailers. With foodie events, public markets, farm stands, pick-your-own activities, guided tours, microbreweries and restaurants that promote local ingredients, our rich terroir has some great discoveries in store for you! Here are our suggestions for a mouth-watering summer:

Public markets
From the end of June, the public markets come alive on Thursdays in Saint-Raymond, Fridays in Saint-Casimir and Saturdays in Deschambault-Grondines and Pont-Rouge. Visiting a market is the perfect way to stock up on local produce and meet the people who produce it.
Festivals and foodie events
From Commission B in Saint-Casimir to the Fêtes gourmandes in Neuville, the Exposition agricole de Portneuf and the Route des arts et saveurs, summer events showcase the richness of Portneuf’s regional products. Check our events calendar regularly to make sure you don’t miss a thing!

Guided tours and tastings
Head over to Fromagerie des Grondines, where you can taste organic cheeses made from raw milk while visiting the farm and its dairy herd. At Miel & Co., explore the world of bees and taste a range of honeys. Neuville’s Domaine des 3 Moulins offers tastings, picnics and guided tours. Ubald Distillerie takes you on a journey from grain to bottle, with tastings and guided tours. For water sports enthusiasts, book with Õ Pagaie for a paddleboard excursion with a gourmet twist! Some of these activities require booking, so be sure to check with each company beforehand.

U-picking: harvesting freshness at its source
Throughout the summer months, a number of farms open their fields for U-picking. Strawberries are the star at Fraisière Faucher, while L’Arc-en-ciel du Paradis offers pick-your-own berries and vegetables, depending on the harvest. Then come the succulent apples from Verger du Roy, followed by pumpkins and squash from a number of farms in the region. It’s an ideal way to reconnect with the land while filling your basket with fresh local produce!

Farm stands, boutiques and local grocery stores
As you travel through the region, keep your eyes peeled for dozens of farm stands, local boutiques and gourmet grocery stores! Top up your basket with a variety of local produce: fruit, vegetables, meats, cheeses, honey, chocolates, artisan bread, ice cream, jams and much more. Treat yourself to a picnic in the heart of a picturesque village, on a wharf along the St. Lawrence River or at the top of a mountain during a hike!

Microbreweries and foodies
Beer lovers can enjoy the region’s five microbreweries, four of which also offer delicious local-flavoured meals. Keep an eye out for the opening of the Les Grands Bois microbrewery tasting room! Make the most of your visit by bringing back a few cans to enjoy at your campsite, cottage or home. From snack bars to foodie bistros, these restaurants take pride in using the agrifood products of businesses and farms in the region. Find out more about them here.
