U-picking: savour all the season has to offer

When the days slowly grow shorter and the air begins to fill with the aromas of ripe produce, it’s a sign that the U-picking season is in full swing in the region of Portneuf! Whether you are a fan of fresh fruit and crunchy vegetables or simply looking for an outdoor outing with family or friends, local producers open their fields and orchards to you.
Last chance for summer berries
If you love berries, there’s still time to enjoy the season’s late raspberries. At L’Arc-en-ciel du Paradis, the raspberries are coming to an end, so make sure you don’t miss out. At Domaine Hébert, the weekends in August provide an opportunity to taste a lesser-known but equally delicious variety: the yellow raspberry, which is sweet and slightly tart.
Blueberries are also in season right now. Come pick them at Champ des Folies in Neuville (reservation required) or at L’Arc-en-ciel du Paradis in Cap-Santé in a relaxing, rural setting.
August: apple season is underway!
In Deschambault-Grondines, Verger du Roy welcomes you on certain weekends to pick your own apples in a delightful setting near the St. Lawrence River. With more than 25 varieties available for U-picking and at the farm stand, there’s something for everyone. Be sure to try their delicious homemade apple juice and various jams, herbal teas and other local treats. Guided tours are also available (booking required) to learn more about apple cultivation.
September and October: pumpkins and autumn vegetables are ready!
Autumn is a time of pumpkins, squash and root vegetables. On weekends in October, Ferme Béland et fille in Neuville invites you to come choose your pumpkin directly from the field—perfect for Halloween preparations or making a delicious, hearty soup.
In Saint-Basile, Ferme Grenier Long is a must for cucurbits lovers. Their field is a real playground for young and old alike, and their Fête de la citrouille (Pumpkin Festival) in October promises a festive occasion not to be missed (details to be announced on their Facebook page).
In Cap-Santé, L’Arc-en-ciel du Paradis continues the harvest season with great opportunities to pick carrots, corn, beets, squash and—of course—more pumpkins! It’s a fantastic way to fill your basket with fresh, local and tasty produce.
